How hard is AP Drawing?
I am planning to take AP drawing this upcoming school year, and after the first orientation, the class was described as immensely challenging. Do any of you guys have experience with AP drawing or design and know how bad it really is? How good were you before starting this class. I took some fundamental classes prior to this year, but I am pretty worried about how difficult it will be. Completing 15-20 works seems really challenging, and I was wondering what the quality of the works needed to be to get at least a 4 maybe 5?

- Jillian GI took AP Drawing and honestly the workload was probably the hardest part. You definitely don’t have to be amazing going into the class though. I had some art experience before, but a lot of my better work came later in the year after I had more time to experiment.
I also wouldn’t worry too much about every single piece being perfect. I think portfolio is more about showing how your ideas develop and what you tried along the way. Some of my process stuff and experiments ended up being very important too.
If you already took some fundamentals classes, that is helpful，Just try not to leave everything until the end lol. That’s when it gets really bad.- Mason
Thanks, that actually makes me feel a lot less stressed about starting. I’ll try to keep up with it instead of waiting until the end.
- MiuIn 2024, about 84% of students scored a 3 or higher, with about 31% getting 4 and 15% getting 5. So you have a good chance of getting 4 or 5. You will need a strong inquiry, visible experimentation and revision. The written evidence is also very important. The writing explains choices that aren't obvious from the images which is very important too. Good luck.
